A student from the Fukuoka School of Medical Technology Fukuoka CampusFaculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology a presentation on biological toxins at the Kyushu Branch Meeting of the Japanese Biochemical Society.
On June 13 (Friday) and 14 (Saturday), 2025, four Graduate School Graduate School students from Teikyo University Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology Department of Medical Technology Medical Engineering Course participated in a general lecture and gave a presentation on biological toxins at the regular meeting of the Kyushu Branch of the Japan Biochemical Society held at Miyazaki Citizen Plaza (Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture) in Reiwa 7.
The students who participated in this conference belong to the laboratory of Narumi Shioi, Senior Assistant Professor of the same course, and are engaged in research on biotoxicities in collaboration with the Graduate School of Graduate School Sciences of Fukuoka University. In particular, the focus is on the development of biological toxins into drugs, and this research is expected to play a part in the development of drugs for the treatment of venomous snake bites in the future.
The students gave presentations on the following themes: "Evolving venom resistance: Diversity of structure and function of fetuin-like proteins in venomous snake serum," "Evidence study on inactivation of snake venom proteins using everyday chemicals," "Establishment of soluble expression systems and structure-function analysis of toxin-binding low molecular weight proteins SSP-3 and SSP-4," and "Snake-derived inhibitors that control venom: Functional properties and reconstruction of CRISP toxin recognition molecule SSP-2." Students who participated commented, "I found it interesting to listen to the presentations by each expert and learn about their approach to specialized biochemistry research."
Our university will continue to promote the improvement of medical quality and contribution to society through practical research.
